Hyundai i20 gets a CVT gearbox so it can be more competitive in terms of price with Maruti Suzuki's premium hatch, the Baleno!

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. will be launching the i20 facelift in India this year. The 2018 Hyundai i20 is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi-NCR. That said, a new report from Autocar suggests that Hyundai will showcase the new i20 Facelift with a new CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic transmission, mated to a 1.2-litre petrol unit at the Auto Expo. Moreover, the company will also discontinue the existing 1.4-litre petrol variant that comes mated to a 4-speed AT torque converter unit.
Price-: ₹ 5.75 - 10.15 Lakh
The outgoing i20 which also came with an automatic gearbox will be mated to a four-speed torque converter, which was originally meant for the European market, debuted in India in 2016. However, in terms of costing the i20 broke the price band retailing at almost ten lakh for the mid-spec Magna trim. That put it beyond the retail price of its major rival the Baleno, which was 81,000 cheaper even in the top-spec Alpha trim.
